Bigelow Code of Conduct

Meetings and Conferences

Welcome to Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences. Bigelow is committed to providing a welcoming and safe environment for all its guests and Bigelow staff. All participants, attendees, speakers, volunteers, laboratory staff, service and catering providers, and all others attending events at the laboratory are expected to abide by our Meetings and Conferences Code of Conduct. This Code of Conduct applies to all events hosted by Bigelow, including those sponsored by organizations other than Bigelow but held at our campus facilities as well as Bigelow-hosted events that take place off our East Boothbay campus. Individuals who violate this Code of Conduct may be dismissed from the meeting.

Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences strives to maintain an environment that allows meeting participants and employees to flourish through respectful, inclusive, and equitable treatment of others. Our community is comprised of professionals, students, and volunteers from all over the world, and this diversity is a strength of the scientific enterprise. Be considerate and communicate respectfully and constructively with others. Alert the meeting organizers or a Bigelow staff representative if you notice a potentially dangerous or suspicious situation. Participants are expected to behave in a professional manner and be respectful of the rules outlined here at all times.

  • Disruption of meeting proceedings (e.g., talks, presentations, receptions).

  • Anyone requested to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
  • Bigelow staff may take any necessary and appropriate action, including removal from the meeting.
  • Bigelow reserves the right to prohibit attendance at future meetings or other campus activities.
