Application and Registration Details: Application and registration is now closed for 2022.

Course Dates: The course will run from Monday, April 4 to Friday April 8, 2022.

Check-in and Check-out You may check-in in the the afternoon/evening of April 3, check-out will be the morning of April 9th.

Food and Accomodation: External Course participants will stay at the Graham Shimmield Residence Hall. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided for external participants.

Participants will be staying in quad dorm rooms. Two people will be assigned to each quad, each person will have a private sleeping area and will share a bathroom with one other person. The dorm has a communal kitchen and living space for all participants to enjoy. The course will be held primarily in the Alfond Room, a seminar space within the dormitory, and group meals will be held in the communal living area of the dorm.

Travel: Bigelow Laboratory is located at 60 Bigelow Drive, East Boothbay, Maine, USA. The closest airports are Portland, Maine (PWM) (about 1-hour drive) and Boston-Logan (about 3-hour drive). There is no public transportation to the area. Shuttle information is as follows:
April 3, 2022:

  • 7:30-8:00 PM pickup at Portland International Jetport (PWM)
  • 8:15-8:30 PM pickup at the Portland Transportation Center bus terminal

April 9, 2022:

  • 7:30 AM pickup at Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences
  • Drop-off in Portland around 9:00 AM

Shuttle pickup locations:
Airport pickup location will be in front of “Taxi and Limo Service” (lower right hand corner of this map).
Bus terminal pickup location will be in front of the bus terminal entrance (bus terminal located here).

Registration Fee:
External Participants: $1950
Bigelow Participants: $800

The registration fee covers instruction, lodging, meals during the Course, and a scheduled shuttle to/from the Portland (Maine) airport. A discounted registration rate for Bigelow participants will exclude lodging, local transportation and meals. A full registration fee will be charged regardless of the length of time a participant attends the Course.

COVID-19 Policy: All participants will be required to provide proof of vaccination as well as a negative COVID-19 test taken within three days prior to arrival at Bigelow.
